Day 1

Setting the scene

I was intrigued by the notion of #dungeon23, but having only stumbled across it in the closing quarter of the year I was far too late to meaningfully engage.  The flip side, of course, was that there wasn’t much of 2023 to get through before 2024, and the opportunity to jump on board from day 1.

Here is where I’ve landed after a worryingly impulsive decision to blog my attempted creation, and some very hasty research into federated blogging options… I suspect every day will turn out unlikely, but in the interest of optimism and high expectations I’ll set off with that intent.

I want to create something each day, but I won’t be following a straight one room a day type structure, or working towards a single dungeon per se.

I want to create a series of interconnected quests or adventures, based out of and around a starting town.  Not an original idea by any means, of course, but a playground has to start somewhere.  I also want to create something that ‘makes sense’.  5e is my usual stomping ground, and that’s the rules that will be in my mind - but I’ve always tried to keep it a bit more ‘grounded’ than they can lean.  So adventures that make sense, on behalf of people or creatures with real motivation, purpose, and backstory.

Again, not very original, and probably more than I can manage. But here we are. Let’s find out.
