I am an American, White, Non-Hispanic of #Scottish highlander descent (Yes, I wear a kilt and enjoy single malts, fish & chips and haggis) I wear a handlebar mustache in memory & out of respect for my late father, whose avocation was a magician.
In real life, I am a remarried widower with a teenager, (#Dad) financially stable, & work F/T as a tenured #research #scientist / manager in high energy #physics & #engineering. Known in some circles as "a rocket scientist with a mustache cut by lasers" & as a patented inventor. I have 39 years of continuous work experience, managing multiple large-budget programs, & considered a Highly Qualified Expert (HQE/SME). Politics are also a daily part of my life.
The computers I work on are mainly PCs running Windows 10, but have Macs, run a Linux based NAS, with far too many electronic devices (IoT) networked together. I tend to use cutting-edge technology including optics, supercomputers & Machine Learning (AI), but value hard data & reliability. I travel extensively domestically & internationally, also going and been to multiple professional & furry conventions in my free time. I love to meet up with friends & family when on travel, & often been described as a #foodie. I love alternative music, animation, movies, and graphical arts & am a skilled photographer. I am also a skilled horseman, having trained, competed & won multiple ribbons, instructed, & managed stables at larger riding academies. My passion for riding is three-day eventing, but I loved just going for a trail ride in the woods.
My personality tends to be one of a hopeless romantic & unrequited optimist. The glass is not only half full, but it will only take a bit more to cause it to overflow. Therefore, I try. I am often sending wishes for & hoping for love in return because I am often very low on realized self-appreciation. I’ve also overcome several personal, genetic health issues (AFIB, hypercholesterolemia, HBP, allergic to statins) & therefore know what it is like to be knocked down only to get back up again.
I believe in democracy, a woman’s right to choose, freedom of (or not to have a) religion, that Black Lives Matter (- not all lives & not "blue" lives), and that too many Christians (which I am one, an “unreformed” Presbyterian) have done far too many wrongs - than done actual “good.” I have been vaccinated 5 times for COVID & will encourage you to get vaccines - because #SCIENCE matters. I will try to respect your background, choices & beliefs, so please try to be considerate & understanding of mine. But Nazis, White Supremacists, RNC/GOP members, pedophiles, Conspiracy Theorists, 2020 Election Outcome Deniers, 3%'ers, “Ye” & "Melonusk" can all “phaucque” the way the heck off of this planet!
Updates on Mastodon of my meandering thoughts should follow on a regular basis. I’m always interested in mentoring or sharing ideas with others & learning. For me, there are no dumb or “out of bounds” questions - most are welcome through a DM. Answers may or may not reflect actual facts, mood, or personal beliefs depending on the audience. - I will use profanity if the situation is warranted. I'm a city boy but tend to be mindful, and respectful, use manners & do things that are traditional or considered old-fashioned.
